A Tempting Ravelry Swap: But I Think I'll Pass

Would you join a Multnomah Shawl Swap? Knit a Multnomah Shawl for a swap partner who in turn knits one for you in this shawl exchange.

I considered joining. The deadline to join is July 1st. I'm already in the Dazzling Dozen Potholder Swap and the Proud to be Twelve Inches Square Swap on Ravelry.

I declined. I have a sweater I promised hubby I would have finished by the fall. His Urban Aran Cardigan is feeling slightly neglected these days.

Has anyone ever joined a swap where you commit yourself to making an object that requires a large amount of your time and advanced skill?

Potholder and squares are my speed at the moment.

Happy Yarns!

A whole shawl for a swap? Wow, that would make me nervous. I lost sleep over a hat swap!

Don't think I could ever do a swap that means making something specific for a certain date. Especially something as big as a shawl, wowsers! I suppose I'd be anxious that mine wouldn't be good enough and fudging mistakes just wouldn't do.

I couldn't handle the stress of a shawl like that. I prefer KAL so I'm the only one who suffers from my mistakes(actually my sister did since I gifted her the Clapotis) but you're right, I'd stick to the easier exchange that fit my talent/skill level.

Sounds interesting, but I'll pass too. I generally don't get involved in swaps because I am a chronically late person and I really put together crappy swap packages.

I did a shawl swap once, but it was a round robin style where I knit for you, you knit for someone else, yadda yadda. I got a Multnomah, actually; the shawl I made was crochet. It turned out pretty well for almost everyone involved, but it was a small dedicated group. In general I have an easier time with smaller packages or fewer handmade items to make. I'm making myself a Multnomah now, with the deadline to finish by Sept. 30. I hope I make it, b/c it's not an overly exciting knit yet! :)

I haven't, I've only ever knit smaller items like cowls for a swap, and I think that's where my limit is. I'd rather knit the bigger items for me, without pressure to be mistake-free or finish on time!
