1950s Red Party Dress This Vintage Thingies Thursday

This lipstick red 1950's vintage party dress makes you want to head out to a dance! My mom sure danced in this in the 1950's.

The red bodice is sprinkled with red and pink sequins and covered by a patterned lace. You can see some of the sequins sparkling. The bodice is form fitting to the hip where the skirt begins to flare out. It's hard to see from the photo, but a layer of flouncy toile covers the skirt. I would have modeled this for my VTT friends, if the dress still fit. It's just a bit too small.

The label says it was "styled" by Ricky of Toronto. Ricky can style for me anytime (if he's still around!).

Even when I could fit into this pretty red dress, I wouldn't have worn it to a party. The sequins are fragile and so is the toile. After all, it is vintage!

See what other vintage fashions may be at Coloradolady this VTT.

Happy VTT!

I just LOVE this dress! Makes me remember a day as a child when I found all my aunts' prom dresses hanging in the closet in the bedroom my sister and I always used when staying at grandma's house. What a fun memory.

I notice this morning that I am following you from blog to blog leaving comments on all the VTT posts!!!! I noticed your unique and fun little avatar just above mine.

A very beautiful dress!
I used to sometimes wear my mom's dancing dresses on halloween when I was young. Still have them but they sure don't fit anymore either.

It's amazing that you still have that dress after so many years. My mother had some old formals that we played with. They seemed really old to me, but at that time they were probably only 25 years old.

You kept a real treasure from your mother's past. It is probably is in style now if you could wear it. It is said, if you keep something long enough, it will come back in style.

Oh that dress is so beautiful! and what a wonderful treasure from your mother. I remember a red taffeta dress with a HUGE skirt that my Mom had ... same era. I remember how it sounded when she walked by in her heels and mink stole, trailing Chanel, on her way out with my Dad. Ah, a different era!

Oh my goodness, I think that's the prettiest dress I've ever seen! It's so glamorous! It would be so cool to have one of those dress forms and have that dress on there to look at and enjoy every day! Sure wish you had a picture of you or your Mom wearing it!
Happy VTT!

Perfect. The only question to decide would be the jewelry and the makeup. The shoes would have to be red heels, of course. :)

Oh gosh, it's so delicate and prissy. I love it! I imagine the skirt to be a bit full? I have a dream of getting in a NYC taxi with a big poufy red dress. I think it might be your dress.
